2002 – Founded
The National Rehabilitation Center ‘NRC’ was established upon the insightful directives of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 2002 to serve and provide a glimpse of hope for all drug addicts.
2017 – Moved to Shakhbout City
NRC relocated to its state-of-the-art headquarters in Shakhbout City, Abu Dhabi. The modern facility enhanced capacity, comfort, and the quality of care for patients across all stages of rehabilitation.
2020s – Expansion, Partnerships, Institute Launch.
Building on its legacy, NRC expanded its specialized services, strengthened international partnerships, and launched a dedicated institute to train professionals and advance research in addiction treatment and prevention.
To better serve the needs of the UAE society, the center seeks to continually develop its services in line with the latest scientific approaches in the treatment and rehabilitation of addicted patients. Its specialty areas include setting up research and training centers, conducting seminars, conferences, workshops and training programs, awarding certifications in accordance with the relevant legislations, patient monitoring and follow-up, and establishing necessary programs to meet the evolving needs of patients.
NRC’s vision and strategy are well-aligned with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 and its objectives of providing community-based services to families to educate them about the dangers of addiction to both individuals and society. It significantly contributes to curbing addiction through the effective rehabilitation of patients and their families.

In May 2017, NRC moved its headquarters to a modern facility in Shakhbout City, Abu Dhabi, marking a significant step forward in achieving its strategic goals. The facility spans 108,000 square meters and includes seven buildings with 169 inpatient beds for both men and women. It offers various treatment programs covering all stages of recovery and features.
At the core of NRC’s treatment philosophy is a deep commitment to excellence, community service, respect, and patient confidentiality. The Center believes that privacy and dignity are vital to successful recovery, ensuring that every patient receives compassionate and confidential car. Beyond treatment, NRC is strongly dedicated to awareness and prevention, regularly organizing events and initiatives to promote public understanding of the dangers of drug use and the importance of healthy, drug-free lifestyles
To further strengthen professional expertise in the field, NRC recently established a Specialized Institute dedicated to training and certifying professionals in addiction and clinical practices. The center also conducts research, surveys, and studies on addiction trends in the UAE, sharing its findings through national and international conferences. These efforts contribute to building a reliable national database and developing evidence-based recommendations aimed at reducing the medical, psychological, social, and economic burden of addiction on society.
